One of Californias oldest communities,San Luis
Obispo started with the founding of the Mission 1772
by Father Junípero Serra. It was the the fifth
mission in the California chain of 21 missions.
After the acquisition of California by the U.S., John
C. Fremont claimed possesion in 1846.
It was first incorporated in 1856 as a General Law
City, and became a Charter City in 1876.
It is currently a leading city in the area and the
county seat. However, I find it a University town that
became a business center by accident. Business support
and growth are much stronger in the neighboring cities
of Paso Robles and Santa Maria.
For instance, most downtown stores close at 5:00 PM
before locals get a chance to get off work and shop
themselves.
The river walk is a nice way to spend a few minutes.
Starbucks and the movie theaters are the main local
hangout. Mother's Tavern is famous, though I haven't
been there. It was featured on Wild On E! Entertainment.
