Summary:
Pismo Beach is an incredibly popular destination to visit for a weekend, for getting married, or as a great place to enjoy that hard won retirement. Businesses in the area certainly cater to this variety of visitors.
Pismo Beach has almost 2,000 rooms of lodging. There are many hotels and restaurants right on the water.
The wedding industry is a major employer in the area. Any given weekend you'll probably see white arches and chairs set up all along the coast as thousands of people flock to the coast to get married on or around its warm beaches.
The beach is city owned, which opens it up to more use than the other state owned beaches in the area. You'll see crowds wandering the pier and sandy areas, then heading up to the restaurants at lunch and dinner times. You can find a variety of food, but the area is known for its clam chowder.

Activities:
One of the things that Pismo Beach is famous for is the over wintering of Monarch FlutterBies. Drive just south of town on Hwy 1 and you'll find a small area to park off the side of the road near a grove of eucalyptus trees. The butterflies sleep together in clusters at night, then spread out to feed on the eucalyptus and milkweed blooms during the day.
Other big events include the Car Show in June and the Clam Festival in October.
There's also a
St. Anthony's Celebration which commemorates the Portuguese settlers in the area.
|
Shopping:
There's a small factory outlet mall in town. The rest of the shopping tends to follow one of a couple of streets.
