A popular and historic seaside resort, this town was almost destroyed by a 400,000 gallon oil spill. The town was torn down, the contaminated soil removed, and planning started for the New Avila Beach®. After some starts and stops, construction is going gangbusters in this small beach town.
What's not under construction is actively being surveyed. But the basics are still here, a beach, the pier, and several shops and restaurants. While old timers still mourn the loss of the old town, there's a lot of excitement for things to come.
Olde Port is still here and remains the historic anchor to the area. Walk out the pier on a sunny day and you'll be greeted by seals sunning themselves on the bait rafts. There are fish markets along the length and Old Port Inn at the end. Grab a table here and you can watch the waves through the glassed in looking glass in the middle.
