I was there at high tide this morning,
and the elephant seals are packed in like sardines. The office
of the Friends of the
Elephant Seals is estimating 900 births so far.
I saw one of the pups that was born
the week of December 19th and it's quite the blimp. The seals
that were born early have put on a lot of weight, some should
be approaching 250 - 350 pounds now. They'll need that fat,
as mom is preparing to mate and head back out to the ocean to
feed and recover.
I couldn't stay very long this time,
but I thought this photo of Mom and pup was an ahh moment.
