Mission Santa Ines, named after the 4th century Roman virgin and martyr, was the first mission founded in the 19th century.

It was also the first Seminary founded in California.

This mission was founded by Friar Estevan Tapis on September 17th, 1804.

The earthquake of 1812 destroyed or damaged most of the mission. A temporary church was quickly erected and used as a granary.

No federal or state funds were used in the restoration, and all donations to preserve this wonderful artifact of our history are welcome.
